MonsoonSIM Enterprise Resource Management Competition MERMC 2019 – Singapore Country Final

Weds, 12th June 2019 – MonsoonSIM Enterprise Resources Management Competition (MERMC) 2019, Singapore Country Final. This is the 5th  MonsoonSIM Inter-varsity business simulation competition organized by MonsoonSIM Singapore Pte Ltd and its partners. The competition was a highly competitive event with the following objectives:

  • Expose students to the business concept of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) through fun MonsoonSIM simulation games.
  • Expose students to using the MonsoonSIM Experiential Learning platform in facing the real-world challenge in the competition. Winner of the competition is provided with “Fast-Track” enrollment into SUSS. (Notes : fast-Track entry to SUSS is subject to SUSS Terms and Conditions)
  • From theory to application, students will be able to acquire more practical knowledge as a team and are ready to fit themselves in the real world

MERMC 2019 SG Country Final was proudly endorsed and sponsored by SAP. Hosted by Singapore University of Social Science (SUSS) for the 3rd consecutive years. MERMC 2019 SG Country Final is open to all higher learning institutions in Singapore. For 2019, 16 teams from different institutes competed in MERMC 2019 SG Country Final: 

  • 8 teams from Republic Polytechnic
  • 4 teams from Ngee Ann Polytechnic 
  • 3 teams from SUSS
  • 1 team from Kaplan 

Every team need to compete in 2 rounds of games [Game 1, 30% and Game 2, 70%], each team will ballot themselves into Group A or Group B in each game. Each group comprises of 8 randomly drawn teams, meaning they do not have any preset knowledge of their competitors before the competition. Grouping in Game 2 will be re-drawn to ensure that the market place in game 2 is totally different from the competitors in Game 1. The final results were determined based on the total percentage scored by teams from Game 1 and Game 2 added, with the following KPIs being used in Game 1 and Game 2 as the following;


Game 1 KPI’s

  • Net Profit (High) - 25%
  • Operating Expense (Low) - 10%
  • Sales Revenue (High) - 10%
  • Profit Margin (High) - 15%
  • Production (High) - 10%
  • Cash On Hand (High) - 5%
  • Staff turnover ratio (Low) - 5%
  • Utilization - All space (High) - 10%
  • Late Shipment - Wholesales (Low) - 5%
  • Retail Stockout (Low) - 5%

Game 2 KPI’s

  • Net Profit (High) - 25%
  • Operating Expense (Low) - 10%
  • Sales Revenue (High) - 10%
  • Profit Margin (High) - 15%
  • Inventory Value (Low) - 10%
  • Cash On Hand (High) - 5%
  • Staff turnover ratio (Low) - 5%
  • Utilization - All space (High) - 10%
  • Late Shipment - Wholesales (Low) - 5%
  • Retail Stockout (Low) - 5%

The top 4 teams (with highest combined score) were selected to represent Singapore to the MERMC 2019 – Regional Final, in Hong Kong. The teams are; Champion, team “Alfian” from Republic Polytechnic , first runner-up team “Carry” from Republic Polytechnic, 2nd runner-up team “Doggo Squad” from SUSS and 4th qualifying team, Volte from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. As MERMC 2019’s country host, SUSS had honoured our winners individually with medals and certificate of participants. MonsoonSIM has sponsored the winners with cash prizes worth SGD 1, 000:

Champion        : SGD 500

1st Runner Up  : SGD 300

2nd Runner Up : SGD 200

The enthusiasm and excitement shown by our participants were overwhelming. MERMC 2019 SG Country Final had successfully influence the learners and participants in helping them to better themselves in the following key areas:
